We all know the toughest days to be on a diet are the weekends. Let’s be honest, who wants to go on a nice date with your boyfriend in town and order a spring salad, substituting the dressing for balsamic vinaigrette and putting the dressing on the side? That’s not even the worst part of it. You then have to watch your man eat a greasy hamburger in front of your face and suck the delicious salt off his fingers. I’m sorry, but that stuff makes me crazy.
So what are some good ways to eat what you want at a restaurant without giving up all the diet and exercise you did over the week??
I know from personal experience that it’s all about portions. Why do you think so many women lose weight off of Weight Watchers? It’s not like they change their daily lifestyle that much, it’s because they eat in less portions. Instead of eating until you have an octomom-style food baby, eat until you’re not hungry anymore. I understand, you love going to your favorite restaurant and ordering the chicken parm and it’s the weekend, you should be allowed to indulge a little, but instead of eating 3 pieces of bread doused in butter before and eating tiramisu after, just eat the chicken parm and take some home. How wonderful is it when you can have your chicken parm again later in the week? Not only will it save you money for not having to make yourself dinner that night, but you won’t feel bloated the whole entire night.
Personally, I don’t have a boyfriend so a typical weekend of a college girl consists of going out and drinking and dancing with my friends. I was thinking about it on Friday, but do you know how many calories go into alcohol? There’s about 95-125 calories in each shot. So for me, it takes me a bunch of shots to get drunk (I’m sure my mom is loving this post right now, lol), so let’s say I’d have like 6 or 7 shots in a night, that’d be around 700 calories right there. Now, it’s not like I’m going to drink the alcohol straight; most of the time, I’ll have a chaser or mix it with something. So that’s even more calories! And then when you’re drunk and after a fun night, you often order obscenely unhealthy food and eat that as you go to bed. So all those calories are stupid. Grant it, you may lose some calories by dancing the night away, but most girls just grind on some guy. How many calories can you lose swaying back and forth with your butt pressed up against a guy? Let’s be real.
So, I took a vow to not drink this weekend and I did it! I walked around with a water bottle full of water and most people thought it was vodka. Not only did it help me drink the many glasses of water you’re supposed to drink (I filled it up like 3 times), I wasn’t dehydrated and had a lot of fun. I danced with all of my friends and burned a disgusting amount of calories walking around Ithaca over the weekend. Literally, I was everywhere in Ithaca. It was crazy.
Then I didn’t eat that bad at the dining hall. I had an egg white omelette for breakfast on Saturday with lots of vegetables in it, I had salad for lunch, and then had sushi for dinner with some of my friends. Then Friday night dinner sucked, so I had pita and hummus. Lol, good thing I didn’t drink because a normal person would probably throw up if they only had a pita and hummus and then binge drink.
Anyway, the moral of the story:
If you’re in college and want to lose weight, DON’T DRINK. Over the weekend, I didn’t have about 1500 calories. And yet, I still had just as much fun as I normally do. Remember, you CAN have fun without drinking. And if your friends will make fun of you or judge you for not drinking, who cares? Just remember them teasing you when they all have beer bellies come second semester. Or you can just trick them like me 😉 But my friends didn’t care, they were cool about it.
And if you’re not into the drinking scene, it’s fine. INDULGE a little! It is the weekend! Just make sure to cautious of what you’re doing. Don’t order wine with your dinner, have water. Don’t eat the whole platter, save some for later. Is dessert really that necessary? Have a cappuccino instead! And if your man buys dessert for you to share regardless, take a bite or two. Don’t finish it and if you want, wrap that up too! You shouldn’t feel obligated to eat anything you don’t want to.
Remember, losing weight is your decision. You’re in complete control of what’s around you. You need to have the filter that goes “hmm, cheeseburger or salad?” You need to think of the consequences and be aware. I believe in all of you and can’t wait to see what happens to you all! I want to lose about 20 pounds by January 23rd. That’s a lot. I’m currently 250 pounds heavy. I honestly though believe that I can lose it if I work hard. Set yourself a goal and work for it! If you don’t reach your goal, that’s fine. Set more goals and sooner or later, you’ll make it to there! Good luck!
